The Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame announce with deep sorrow and regret the death of Sister Mary Anne Morrison (Sister Saint Roderick Maria), on August 23rd, 2021 at the CND Health Care Centre.
Born in Boisdale, Cape Breton, on September 4, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Roderick Morrison and Laura Isabel Ley. Sister Mary Anne is survived by her sisters: Susan (Bill MacKay d.), Tena (Alex Boyd), Beatrice (Joseph MacDonald d.) Laureen (Roddie MacDonald d.) Florence (Max Lowry d.) and brothers Bert (Sarah), Malcolm (Sandra), and Gregory, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Joanne (Bert Fraser d.) and brothers John James (Betty), Martin (Doreen) and Charles (Carol).
Sister Mary Anne was educated in Iona, Cape Breton and entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1951, making religious profession in 1953. A devoted and capable teacher, Sister Mary Anne taught Elementary and Junior High from 1953 to 1997: in New Victoria, Port Hood and Sydney. After retirement from teaching she did volunteer ministry in Sydney as well as in Canim Lake, British Columbia where she worked among the First Nations people.
In 2011 Sister Mary Anne retired to Parkland Cape Breton where she continued to do voluntary work. She was a valued member of the CND community and was well liked by the residents and staff of Parkland Cape Breton. Sister Mary Anne moved to the CND Health Care Centre because of ill health.

Visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, August 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with a short Bible Service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys at 11:00 a.m. on Friday August 27th with interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
