Born and raised in Sylacauga, AL. Ann received a Bachelor of Music degree from Alabama College (University of Montevallo) in 1951. She would later receive a master's degree in Education from the University of Montevallo as well.
Ann was married to Ralph Porter, a minister in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church (1951-1973). During their years together, Ralph served eight churches, with his last appointment at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Boaz.

A true pastor's wife, Ann loved serving alongside her husband. With a joyful and grateful heart, she devoted herself fully to every congregation and community she was a part of. An accomplished musician and educator, she shared her gifts in both the church and in the school room.
Ann lived her life to give to others and to serve her family, her church, and her community. Known for her incredible kindness, compassion, graciousness, and her loving and humble spirit. Ann truly lived Jesus's words, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35)
