 BOBBY TURNEY (MY DAD) WAS THE GREATEST.
HE WAS A VERY HARD WORKER AND TOOK CARE FOR HIS FAMILY.  HE TAUGHT US WHAT FAMILY REALLY MEANT.  BY EXAMPLE HE TOOK CARE OF HIS MOTHER AS WELL AS MANY OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND EXTEDEED FAMILY MEMBERS.  HE ENJOYED VISIT FROM NEICES AND NEPHEWS.  DAD DID NOT HAVE TO SAY ALOT JUST THE LOOK ON HIS FACE TOLD US WHAT HE WANTED.  I HOPE THAT DADDY TRULY KNEW HOW MUCH WE ALL LOVED HIM.

First I would like to say thank you to everyone who has gathered today to recognize and remember the life of  Bobby Gene Turney as well as offer love and support to his family.

When Shirley asked me to deliver the eulogy of course I said I would be glad to do this and anything else that might be needed, it is after all an honor to be given the opportunity to share a few memories and talk about the man that I have come to know, love, and admire. 

The first time I ever met Bobby was Christmas Eve the year me and Tammy started dating, but you can be sure she told me in no uncertain terms how much she loved her Pawpaw and she was his favorite whether anybody else liked it or not, it was Bobby that she always wanted to give her away at our wedding and he did. Since then, whenever we would pull in the yard to visit most of the time he would meet us under the carport and say to Tammy there’s “My Pretty Girl” which was the way he seemed to refer to all his girls, and to me he would say there’s “That Sorry Joker”, he also lovingly referred to me as “Old What’s His Name” which makes me think maybe I was his favorite although some might disagree since when it was time to leave he might say “ If you come back I’m gonna sick my dog on you,” with a big ole grin on his face.
I guess the point is he always made me feel welcome.

Bobby Turney was a country boy, in all the stories I’ve heard about him there was always someone in the family, a truck, a tractor, a pond, a creek, a barn, a field, a trail, a dirt road, chicken, cat, deer, dog, cow, bird, snake, rat or coyote. Land and Family, different people different places, but always Land and Family. All the years I’ve known him it was always his home and his family, he believed in providing for and taking care of his family. Over the years a couple of times I would be gone working or something and Tammy would need something, the battery would be dead in the car, or the starter quit working and if she called without hesitation Pawpaw Turney would do whatever it took to fix the problem, take out Tammy’s name and put in Sharon, Bubba, Little Bob, Kyle, Billy, Jennifer, Rhonda or anybody else in his family or if you were a friend or neighbor and needed help he would do whatever he could to help.

I was reading a book recently and Bubba touched on this as well, in the book the character was traveling with some companions and someone referred to them as his family, one of his friends asked why he didn’t tell the person they were not family and the character said you aren’t always family by blood sometimes its by choice. I chose to marry his granddaughter but that doesn’t mean I have to accept her family or that they have to accept me, but with Bobby Turney and his family it was easy to do just that, I know a good man when I see one and his family in large part because of who he was are good people and they chose to accept me.

Someone asked me once, What is the best thing a man can do in his life? I said I wasn’t sure because there were so many things I wanted to accomplish and he said, “ The greatest thing a man can do in his life is to raise a family, to love and care for them and to teach them to love and care for each other.” 

Bobby Gene Turney was a country boy, a good man who loved his family, he will be missed by any and all who knew him, and we were all blessed to have known him.

This is a sad time and nothing can change that but when your heart breaks at the loss you feel for Bobby Turney, look at his life and the family he raised, the family full of good people, immediate and extended, all the friends and others his life touched, and you will see a part of him is still here with us.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

I am very sorry to hear about bobby's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of sorrow. He is at peace now with JESUS.
