he was preceded in death by daughter Elizabeth A. Upton and granddaughter Sierra; parents Carl Edward Mims Sr. and Lillian Mizzell Mims; and wife Herrietta L. Mims.
Family member left behind are daughter Catherine A. Hutchins, granddaughter Alexia G. Hutchins and two grandsons Dominic Hutchins and Corbin Hutchins; his sister Amanda Mims McWhorter (Bill McWhorter) and his precious dauchounds Brindy and Dudley.
Carl "Coach" Mims was born in Sylacauga, AL May 21, 1950 to the parents of Carl and Lillian Mims. he attended school in Sylacauga and after graduation attended the University of Alabama. He was in ROTC and served in the Army at Fort Knox, KY as a tank unit Commander in October 6, 1972. After being Honorably Discharged from the Army he started his teaching and coaching career. He coached at Oneonta High School, Shelby County High School, Emma Samson High School and St. Clair County High School. While a coach at St. Clair they won the 1993 State Championship in football. Afterwards he left for two years but returned to St. Clair and it became his forever home as a coach and History teacher until he retired on June 1, 2017.
A celebration of life for Carl will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 6:30 PM at Calvary Baptist Church of Odenville, AL. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
