David got his wings! He worked hard, played hard, and loved hard. He lived life with no fear and adventure. He was always full steam ahead, as long his body would allow. David is survived by his wife, Sharron Beasley Dunlap; his daughters Dana Boyd (Jimmy); and Shea Dunlap; his brother Dale Dunlap (Karen), his sisters Deborah Jean Dunlap and Diane Herndon and his sister-in-law Alice Dunlap; his grandchildren Barcley Boyd, Bailey Boyd, Jack Poland, and Tsali Brooks, his great grandchildren Kenzie Poland and Winona Townsend, his niece Devan Dunlap, and his nephews Ray Herndon, Dan Herndon, Jacob Herndon and Russell Dunlap.
David was preceded in death by his father Joseph MacDonald Dunlap and his mother Laurie Eugenia Dunlap; his nephew Sean Dunlap; his brother Donald Dunlap and his brother-in-law Jimmy Herndon.
A celebration of life for David will be held Friday, October 11, 2024 at David and Sharron's lake home from 4pm-8pm. Bring your chair and casual dress.
Serving as pallbearers are Charles Hawke, Debbie Tucker, Jack and Nancy Camp, Stewart and Betsy Burkhalter, Harold and Maria Griffitt, Terry Kaye Cleckler, Candy Mahaffey, Judy Rochelle, Barcley Boyd, Bailey Boyd, Jack Poland and Tsali Brooks.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Childersburg, P.O. Box 303 Childersburg, AL 35044. All donations will be dedicated to hurricane relief.
David grew up in Childersburg, AL and graduated from Childersburg High School in 1962. He attended Jacksonville State College and walked on the football team in 1962. He met his wife Sharron on the dance floor and enjoyed the next 57 years with family and friends. He worked at Kimberly Clark and was a member of the United Paperworkers International Union Local 1595 for 37 years. He was a City Councilman for Childersburg, AL for 8 years. He owned and operated Dunlap construction and Windmill Antiques for 15 plus years. He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Childersburg and a lifetime member of BPOE Elks lodge in Childersburg. He loved Childersburg, AL, visiting friends, the Grist Mill and Flag Mountain. He especially loved watching sunsets on the lake with his beloved wife. We all love you and will miss you.
