Frenchie Floyd, 60, went home to Jesus on January 11, 2021, following a 10-month battle with cancer. At the time of his Homecoming, Frenchie was surrounded by his wife Jackie, his daughter Madison, and his son Landon.
Frenchie was born in Sylacauga, Alabama on August 30, 1960 to the late French and Peggy Floyd. He graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1978 and went on to play baseball at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. In November 1983, Frenchie went on a blind date with the most beautiful woman he had ever laid his eyes on, so he married her 10 months later. Frenchie and Jackie went on to have 2 children, Madison in 1990 and Landon in 1994. Together, they cultivated a life they loved with Christ always at the center and God’s Word the foundation. For the past 20 years, Frenchie owned and operated the business handed down to him by his father, Sylacauga Handicap Inc. He had a tendency to adopt a new hobby at least 4x/wk, but the one that suited him best and he loved the most was without a doubt cattle farming.
Frenchie lived 1000 years in the 60 calendar years we had with him. Everyone lucky enough to call Frenchie a friend has a story to tell and laughter that is sure to follow. He never met a stranger, and he always gave more than he ever received. He somehow always managed to be the loudest and the least at the same time. He either found the fun or he was the fun. Frenchie was always the problem fixer and spirit lifter. There was no burden or weight too heavy for him to bear. He was tough as nails with a heart of gold. He could rattle you up just as quickly and easily as he could calm you down.
Frenchie was world-renowned for his lack of patience and devout stubbornness, and he handed these qualities down to both of his children. He never missed an opportunity to make others laugh. Even in his waning and final days, he was a model of supernatural strength, unwavering faith, sheer bravery, indescribable joy, and an unrivaled sense of humor. The majority of Frenchie’s time was spent doing for, investing in, and giving unto others- and any time that could involve an early morning in a deer stand, 9-18 holes, a farm with cattle on a stretch of land, or a big win by the Alabama Crimson Tide it was definitely a plus. Frenchie took fashion cues from no one, and his comfort far outweighed any interest in fashion trends. His signature every day get-up was all his.
To his close friends and family, the world seems dimmer, definitely quieter, and there’s a deep sorrow that his absence brings. But even in the midst of the sorrow, we rejoice in the gift that was his incredible life and getting a front seat to it all. To have loved and been loved by such an outstanding man of God was the ultimate blessing. We have full joy in knowing we will see our husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend again when we ourselves are called Home. God offers us the free gift of salvation by faith. All we have to do is accept it, acknowledge our sin, believe that Christ’s death on the cross paid the penalty for our sin, and put our trust not in what we can do, but in what God did for us by death on the cross.
Frenchie’s family deeply appreciates and gratefully acknowledges every kind expression of sympathy shown during this extremely difficult time.
