Hubert Wayne Rogers

Pelham, AL - Hubert Wayne Rogers passed away at his home in Pelham, AL on April 9, 2022. He was born May 10, 1936, in Rome, GA to Colquitt Thomas Rogers and Mary Beatrice Rogers, nee Thackerson. Hubert was the youngest of 10 children.

Hubert was proceeded in death by his wife, Peggy Delores Rogers, and his stepson, Robert Jasper Phillips, Jr. Hubert is survived by his daughter, Amy Lee White, nee Rogers (Jeffery), his son, Thomas Wayne Rogers (Paige), stepdaughter, Pamela Grace Farr, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hubert began his career in transportation at age 16 when he began driving a school bus for Albertville High School in Albertville, AL. He then worked for Coca-Cola until 1959, when he was drafted in the U.S. Army. He served in a quartermaster unit, and then in the Honor Guard with the 8th Army in Seoul, Korea until he was honorably discharged in 1961. After his return from Korea, he resumed sales with Coca-Cola. In 1965, he began his career with Golden Flake Snack Foods as a salesman. He was promoted through the ranks until he became the Director of Transportation, where he won numerous state and national awards for fleet operations and safety. While Director, he served as Chairman of the Board of the Alabama Trucking Association and was awarded the H. Chester Webb Award for Distinguished Service to Community Industry and the Alabama Trucking Association in 2001. He also served on the Board of Directors of the National Safety Council, North Alabama Chapter.

Hubert was a member of Riverchase Church of Christ and was very engaged in his community. He was a member of the Pelham Lion’s Club where he won Lion of the Year Award in 1993, 2001, and 2007. Hubert also served as president of the Pelham Lion’s Club. He and his wife were deeply involved with the Band Boosters for Pelham High School. Hubert served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army Bell Ringers. He was given the honor of Life Membership to the Salvation Army Advisory Board. After his retirement from Golden Flake, he served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for the Shelby County court system, serving abused and neglected children.

Hubert’s credo was, “If you do right every day, you never have to worry”.
