

Funeral service for John L. Monroe, age 86, will be Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2PM at Curtis and Son North Chapel with Pastor Sidne Martin officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years: Jeanette White Monroe; brother: William “Bud” Monroe and sister: Ruby Monroe Carr. He served in the US Army from 1944-1946 and received the Asiatic Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation (Japan) Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and 2 overseas service bars. He retired in 1986 from L&N Railway after 26 years. John will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, devotion to his family and his love of hunting, fishing, and love of blue grass music. He is survived by his Son and Daughter-in-law Jeff and Cindy Tubbs Monroe of Five Points, AL, Granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Emile and Brandon Milam of Anniston, Step-granddaughter: Carlie Tubbs of Five Points, Sister-in-laws: Jeanette Monroe of Kellyton, Martha Worrell of Springville, Nephew: Jimmy (Wanda) Horn of Clay, Niece: Dawn (Danny) Self of Clay, Special caretakers Leon Turner and Tammy Kyles of Five Points. Curtis and Son North Chapel will direct the services.
