John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Jane Sherbert; children, Shannon Arnold (Keith), Chris Sherbert (Rachel), and Jonathan Sherbert (Valerie); his grandchildren, Ashton Vick, Bryan Arnold (Allison), Kayla Lucas (Austin), Shawna Sherbert, Sarah Sherbert, Shane Sherbert, and Justin Sherbert; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Steve Sherbert (Sharon), Spud Sherbert (Wanda), sister-in-law, Diane Kay (Scott); and a host of nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents John D. Sherbert, Sr. and Frances “Bo” Sherbert, siblings Michael Sherbert, Traci Sherbert Coleman, and Shawn Sherbert.
John served this country with 25 years in the US Army which included one tour in Vietnam. He retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class and was bestowed two Bronze Stars along with other awards for his service. John loved God, his family, Alabama football, racing, riding his Harley, and watching westerns. He was his grandkids’ biggest fan, no matter the sporting event or activity.
The family would like to thank Kellie McDaniel, other nurses from Southern Care New Beacon, Nakeya Battle (Cornerstone Caregiver) and ALS Clinic at the VA, for taking such great care of John.

A visitation for John will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at The Tabernacle, 2911 Talladega Springs Rd., Sylacauga, Alabama 35151, followed by his funeral service on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
John will be laid to rest in Talladega Springs Cemetery, Sylacauga Fayetteville Hwy, Sylacauga, AL 35151.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Sherbert, Jonathan Sherbert, Steve Sherbert, Spud Sherbert, Justin Sherbert, Shane Sherbert, Josh Coleman, and Bryan Arnold.
