Shirley Brand Cardwell

Shirley Cardwell, age 90, of Madison, Alabama, formerly of Sylacauga, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Shirley was born in Decatur, Mississippi to Zada Wall Brand and Charles Henry Brand.

Shirley is survived by her sister Vicki Bounds (Buster); her sister-in-law Pat Brand; her sons Paul Cardwell (Janice) and Jon Cardwell (Kristi); her daughter Becky Pugh (Ken); her daughter-in-law Libby Cardwell; and her numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Charles Henry Brand and her mother Zada Wall Brand; her husband James R. "Mickey" Cardwell; her brothers Charles H. Brand, Jr. and Thomas Brand; and her sons Stan, James "Jimbo" and Tim.

A visitation for Shirley will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, 1315 Talladega Hwy, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Shirley will be laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 1501 Talladega Highway, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150.

Serving as pallbearers are Mignon Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shirley's memory may be made to Mignon Baptist Church Soup Kitchen, 900 Avondale Ave., Sylacauga, Alabama 35150 US.

Shirley was a long time member of Mignon Baptist Church. She was employed at B.B. Comer School, Sylacauga Recreation Center, and Sylacauga Housing Authority. She married the love of her life, Mickey Cardwell on March 14, 1951.
