Shirley McGhee DeanSylacauga, AL - Funeral service for Shirley McGhee Dean, 84, will be Sunday, September 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Sylacauga with Dr. Rick Patrick and Dr. Larry Morrison officiating.  Mrs. Dean died Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at her residence.  She was preceded in death by her parents, L.D. McGhee, Sr. and Mattie Rebecca McGhee, brother, L.D. McGhee, Jr.  Mrs. Dean was married to the Rev. William (Bill) Dean for 64 years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sylacauga.  She was a graduate of University of Montevallo with a Specialist of Education degree.  She was dedicated to teaching and loved her students.  She received numerous awards in science and mathematics.  She completed the NASA Educational Exchange Program for Science Teachers.  Mrs. Dean received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics from the National Teachers Association.  She loved her Sunday School Class and was involved in numerous church activities.   She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.She is survived by her husband, Rev. William L.(Bill) Dean of Sylacauga; son, W.M. (Mac) Dean, wife Tulsa of Red Lodge, MT; daughters, Susan Mies, husband Jeff of Cold Spring, MN and Rebecca Portillo, husband Cris of Houston, TX; sister, Sue Akin of Bastrop, TX; grandchildren, Sloane Wallis, Lane Wallis, Cris Portillo, II,  Regan Mies, Alton Mies and Anson Mies. Visitation will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home.The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Sylacauga, P.O.
