Steve graduated from Childersburg High School and went on to get a Bachelor’s degree from Montevallo. He later earned his master’s degree in Accounting from Auburn University at Montgomery. After completing his master’s degree, Steve moved to New York, where he began his professional career and had a son, Eric. Steve eventually settled in Montgomery where he worked for the State of Alabama in the Public Commissions Office for nearly 41 years.
Throughout his life, Steve was an avid golfer and a passionate traveler, enjoying many adventures with family and friends. He especially enjoyed playing golf, spending time at the beach, living lake life, going on cruises, and meeting new people. His adventurous spirit and warm heart will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son Eric Bartelt (Katie), granddaughters Angelina Rose and Kiera Isabelle, grandson Isaiah, uncle Bob E. Hassell, sister Patti Drake (John), nieces Alison Todd (Matt) and Laura Smitherman (Wes), great nieces and nephew Sydney, Charlotte, Samantha, and Carter, as well as other relatives and close friends and neighbors.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Dennis Bartelt, his mother Willene Bartelt l, and brothers Donald Allen and Tim Bartelt.
A small graveside service will be held on April 10, 2025 at 1:00pm at Greenhill Memorial Cemetery in Childersburg.
