

Sardis- William Lemuel “Doug” Callaway, aka "Soapy", age 71, passed away on February 1, 2012, at his residence in Sardis. He was born in Appling Co., GA, was a retired truck driver and heavy equipment operator and was a member of Corinth Christian Church. He also was a member of the Steel Workers Union and was a U. S. Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his Wife: Ernestine “Tina” Bazemore Callaway; Parents: Lambert L. Callaway and Audrey M. Carter; Brothers: Dan Callaway and Ricky Callaway; Sister: Josephine Moore.
Survivors: Daughters: Barbara Williams of Sylvania and Kathy McMillan of Sardis; Sons and Daughter-In-Law: Jeffery & Laura Callaway of Rincon and Bobby Oglesby of Sardis; Loving Companion: Ruby Beasley of Sardis; Sisters and Brothers-In-Law: Christine & Joseph Downs of Callahan, FL, Lorene & John Miller and Geraldine & George Daniels, all of Hortense, GA and Jean & Alfred Reese of Yulee, FL; Brother and Sister-In-Law: Tom & Sharon Callaway of Jacksonville, FL; Grandchildren: Harrison Callaway and Haleigh Helmly, both of Rincon, Tabitha C. Simmons of Oliver and Candice Cribbs of Sylvania; Several Nieces and Nephews.
Visitation: Friday, February 3, 2012 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
Funeral services: Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Chapel with Rev. Ernest Johnson officiating. Burial at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
