Ferrante, Nicholas P. - Of Oyster Bay Cove on April 9, 2016. Beloved husband of Rose Marie. Loving father of Joseph, Deborah, Glenn and Lori Jean. Cherished grandfather of Robert, Michele, Jacqueline, Salvatore, Janine, Nicholas, Dominick, Cristina and Nichole. Fond brother of Frances Aniello. Nick “Nicky Unique” was the founder of Unique Sanitation Co., Inc. and U-Need-A Roll Off Corp. of West Babylon. He passed away on April 9th, 2016 in Highland Beach, Florida at the age of 86, of complications from a stroke after a long battle with Alzheimer ’s disease. He was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and was one of 6. Nick worked in a bagel store, while in high school, to help support his family and was never able to graduate. He went on to work for a local A&P Supermarket and was well liked. He met Rose Marie “Doll”, his wife of 61 years, while at a dance in 1952. They courted for about 2 years before they tied the knot on October 2nd, 1954. At the same time, not having much money but having the drive and ambition to make a better life for his future family, Nick borrowed $6000.00 from relatives and purchased a small garbage business, with his brother-in-law Ignazio, servicing homes in Oyster Bay, Long Island. Soon after, Nick went on his own and formed Unique Sanitation Co, Inc. Then in 1959, he opened Pequa Bowl-A-Rama on Merrick Road in Massapequa with his cousin Pat and 2 other partners. He took up bowling as a sport and was able to bowl a perfect “300” game. During that period, Nick managed to run both businesses, Unique Sanitation during the day and Pequa Bowl at night and on the weekends. In 1978, Nick sold Pequa Bowl and, along with his two sons, concentrated on building Unique Sanitation and U-Need-A Roll Off into one of the most recognized and well known waste removal and recycling companies on Long Island. His sons are still carrying on his legacy of fairness, honesty and integrity. Nick’s hard work and ambition has provided higher education for all his children and grandchildren, which was important to him that they obtained, since he couldn’t. Nick was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need, both financially and with advice. Nick was also an avid and competitive Golfer and was a member of the Huntington Crescent Country Club for over 30 years. In 1995, Nick won the “Governors Cup” at Huntington Crescent. Nick Ferrante was loved and respected by all and was a “true gentleman”. Nicky always wore a smile that would light up a room and had a personality to match. Nick and Rose Marie loved to travel the world, visiting such places as China, Australia and Europe, to name a few. He always put his family first. Although Nick grew up in a poor family of Italian immigrants, he epitomized the meaning of hard work and dedication, never forgetting where he came from. Nick was a self-made successful businessman and provided his family with a comfortable life. By the way, his “Doll” was always “Riiiiiigghhtt”!!!!! Reposing at Beney Funeral Home of Syosset, 79 Berry Hill Road. Visiting Thursday 7-9 PM and Friday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Saturday 10:00 AM at St. Dominic R.C. Chapel, 93 Anstice St., Oyster Bay, NY. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nicholas P. Ferrante to Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation would be appreciated.
