Martha L. Newsome

Martha L. Newsome, 69, passed away on Sunday surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Phenix City, AL on December 27, 1941. Martha was previously employed at Plaza Nursing Home as a LPN. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She found the Lord at an early age while a member at Pine Hill Baptist Church of Phenix City, AL and later became a member of Gethsemane Holiness Church in Syracuse, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, Elijah and Willie Mae Foster; brother, Roosevelt Wiley; sister, Elizabeth Wells and a son, Josh Randall Newsome.

Martha is survived by her husband, Cleveland Newsome, Sr.; sons, Joseph (Shirley) Newsome, Gregory (Laurie) Newsome, Cleveland, Jr. (Sonja) Newsome and Stanley (Karla) Newsome all of Syracuse; sisters, Francis Adams and Lula Berry; brothers, Elijah Foster, Jr., Nathaniel Foster and Jimmy Foster all of Phenix City, AL; step-daughters, Laverne Moffett of Smith, AL and Patrenia Ross of Phenix City, AL; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m. at Gethsemane Holiness Church, 201 Gifford Street, Syracuse.

Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
