

Mary, 90, was known as “Nonna” to some, “Aunt Mimi” to others, passed away on December 20th surrounded by her family at Van Duyn Nursing Home. She was born in Castiglione, Sicily, Italy on July 6, 1922 to the late Giovanni and Rose Guifre Spuches. The family immigrated from Sicily to Canastota, NY in 1927 where everyone worked on the family farm then later moved to Syracuse, NY. In February of 1950, Mary married her pen pal Vito LoPresti in Sicily. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was a great storyteller of her personal travels and experiences in life. She retired from the Syracuse City School District. Mary was predeceased by her husband, parents; her brothers, Samuel and Armand; sisters, Nina Fasulo and Lucille Rapone.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Rita LoPresti; son, Richard LoPresti and daughter-in-law, Deborah; grandsons, Rich and Sean LoPresti; sister, Josephine Murphy; and many nieces and nephews in America and Italy.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday 8:30 a.m. at FARONE & SON FUNERAL HOME and 9 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse.
