

Petra Perez went to be with Our Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at the age of 88. She was born to Manuel and Estefana Guzman on September 6, 1925, in Taft, Texas. Petra was an extraordinary powerhouse. She was a beautiful and strong woman and was a healer to her family and others. She was always there for those in need of advice or a shoulder to cry on. If you needed a good meal, a good conversation or a great cup of coffee, she was always there. Petra never got tired of helping others. She loved music and light. She loved dancing and even a good old fashion fight. Petra was never shy but always humble.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Ricardo Perez, Jr. in June of 2013, just a few months shy of their 70th wedding anniversary; son, Martin Perez; daughter, Guadalupe Munoz; grandchildren raised as children, Johnny Rodriguez and Edward Mendiola; sisters, Anita Rios, Filomena Calderon, Martha Diaz, Maria Saldana; and many other loved ones.
Petra is survived by her children including her sons: Jeronimo (Abril) Perez, Jesus (Janie) Perez, Carlos Perez, Juan (Sylvia) Perez and Ricardo Perez III; daughters: Adela (Juan) Castillo, San Juana (Jose) Castillo, Mary (Joe) Strano, Alicia (Leonel) Gonzalez and Patricia Perez; grandchildren raised as children, Alvin (Ena) Cruz, Blanca Marie (Ruben) Villarreal and Dorothy Perez; cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephews; brothers, Rutilio Guzman and Leopoldo Guzman; sisters, Janie (Geno) Cruz, Floral (Tanacio) Martinez and Adelina Blanco.
May Jesus tell God how much we enjoyed and loved you and that you were the best Mom ever. You are gone but will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 21, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow the service at Taft Memorial Park.
