Born on November 13, 1946, in Snyder, Texas, to Reed and Verna (Irvan) Ashley, Charles grew up with a strong sense of values and a heart for helping others. He graduated from Snyder High School, around where he excelled as an avid football player.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army for six years during the Vietnam War. His selfless service and dedication to his country earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow soldiers and community.
After his honorable discharge, Charles met the love of his life, Dorothy (Hamilton) Ashley. They married on July 5, 1971, in Odessa, Texas, and spent several blissful years together until her passing in 1996.
For nineteen years, Charles worked as a grocery store manager at Modern Thriftway in Andrews, Texas. He took great pride in his work and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his customers and colleagues.
Charles's family was his greatest joy. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially his daughter Tina. He made Fourth of July celebrations extra special for her and enjoyed playing board games and working on projects together.
In search of a more serene and picturesque environment, Charles's family made the move from West Texas to the Tahlequah area, drawn by the region's stunning natural beauty, with its lush trees and serene lakes. Charles was particularly fond of boating on the waters of Lake Tenkiller and exploring the surrounding countryside.
During summer getaways, Charles and his daughter Tina would often spend hours on the lake, enjoying quality time together. When not out on the water, they loved playing Skibo, a favorite family game that brought them countless hours of laughter and joy.
Charles's passions included old-time country music, particularly George Jones. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching “Old Westerns” and “Murder She Wrote” on TV. He also loved fishing, boating, and spending time outdoors. Charles had a special place in his heart for his furry companions, Jack and Sissy. His love for animals and the outdoors was evident in the way he cared for his yard and spent hours fishing and boating.
