Cody Wesley Sanders was born on January 12, 1989 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Michael Allen and Linda Marie (Stottlemeyer) Sanders. He attended school at Keys throughout his childhood, alongside his brother, Dustin, and went on to earn his high school diploma as a Keys Cougar. While growing up in Cherokee County, he loved going fishing with his grandad Stottlemyer and his brother, playing basketball, tinkering on a wide variety of projects and fixing up vehicles. He then went to work for Ziese Productions, now CNC Machines in Cookson, for over 15 years, as a machinist in the manufacturing industry. When he wasn’t busy working, you could find him with his best friend, his son, Redd, whether it was going on walks or playing video games together. He also enjoyed the company of his brother Dustin and best friends Stephen Hooper, Michael Morrison and Michael Allcorn. He was a movie buff and faithful to watching his favorite series, The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad. He looked forward to hosting the occasional BBQ; upholding his title as “grill master”. He was fearless and the life of the party, a friend to all who knew or didn’t know him, and lived for the chance just to see you smile. If you needed something and Cody had it, it was yours, no questions asked, nothing expected in return. He liked a good meal at Red Lobster or a foot long chili dog, and had energy enough for everyone. He was ornery and took every opportunity to play pranks and jokes just to lighten up a room. He loved people and went out of his way to make you feel loved and important. A Christian by faith, Cody lived his faith, fed those that needed groceries, provided shelter for those needing rest, and being a friend for everyone. He passed from life on February 22, 2025 at the age of 36 years. He will be greatly missed and always loved.
Cody has gone home to join his mother and his grandparents, Clyde and Elsie Stottlemeyer and Eddie Sanders.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Redd Mikal Sanders of the home, father, Michael Allen Sanders of Cookson, OK. He also leaves his brother, Dustin Michael Sanders of Cookson, OK and Uncle George and Aunt Ruth Kirk of Tahlequah, OK. He leaves the buddies, Stephen Hooper, Michael Morrison and Michael Allcorn all of Tahlequah, OK, as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
