Fonda Irene Adkins-Fisher was born on Wednesday, April 7th, 1943 in Lost City, OK, the daughter of Dan and Bessie (Potts) Adkins. She attended school and then went to Northeastern State University and obtained her Master’s degree in education. This was far more than a job to Fonda, it was her life’s calling instilling a love of knowledge in her students. On August 10th, 1962, she married her best friend Delmor Fisher, and together they shared 57 years memories and raised two daughters, Danna and Kristal. In 1962, she began teaching students, and this life-long endeavor has blessed many young minds over the years. She was a gifted Mathematician, and Fonda used this gift on her students. It didn’t matter if they were learning from prison or in the school system, Fonda cared enough to give them all she had to give. She began teaching in Liberty School a one room school house with all eight grades in one room together. She transferred to Peggs for a year and a half, then from 1964 until 2001, she taught at Hulbert School. In 2006-2007, she came out of retirement to teach for one year at Lost City. Her awards shelf was full of the love and time she invested in her students. She cherished every student’s accomplishments and they knew there was always a willing friend in Fonda. When she wasn’t teaching, she was raising her family. She never grew tired of being with her family and friends, to share a meal or celebrate one of life's little moments. There was always time to read a good book, watch the pony race, play a few slots with her friends, or doing something special for those she loved. The best part of any day was seeing and spending time with Kristian, Lane, Elizabeth, Jesse, and Kali, the five best grandchildren on earth. A Christian by faith, Fonda was a member of the Swimmer Baptist Church. The church was simply an extension of her family, and she loved every one of the members and helped whenever asked. Her faith sustained Fonda even when the road became long and hard to climb, Fonda never stopped loving those around her. Her smile was warm and comforting and her presence in the room was a constant reminder she was there for you. The Lord called this loving wife, mother and grandmother home from her many labors on Friday, July 10th, 2020 at her home in Lost City. She was 77 years old and will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, grandparents, and her beloved daughter, Danna Rae Fisher-Barnes.
Those left to celebrate her life include her husband Delmor Fisher of the home in Lost City, OK, and her daughter, Kristal D. Chuculate-Smith and husband David of Lost City, OK. She also leaves one sister, Brenda Steeber and husband Robert of Checotah, OK. Fonda lives on in her five adored grandchildren, Kristian Smith of Hulbert, Lane Smith and wife Sarah of Wagoner, OK, Elizabeth Grace Smith of Lost City, Jesse Daniel Barnes of Stigler, OK, and Kaili Rae Barnes also of Stigler, OK as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of students too numerous to mention.
