

John Patrick Blackburn Sr., or Jack to his many friends and family, was born on January 25th, 1953, in Pasadena, TX, the son of Johnny Ray and Barbara Jean (Dowd) Blackburn. He was raised in a household with three brothers and three sisters, Johnny Ray, Billy Ray, Lonny Gene, Bobbie, Patty and Dorothy Fay. He attended and graduated high school and then began his military service, first in the US Army and finally finishing honorably with the United States Air Force. Jack worked for his dad in the plumbing business before deciding on a career as an Attorney. He met and married the love of his life, Barbara Cross. Joining their families together of which, she has two boys, and he has six boys and three girls, John Patrick, Stanley Brian, Adam Frank, Donald Patrick, Billy Ray, Jason Ray, Heather Dawn, Katherine Ann, and Billie Jean. He loved his family dearly, and they were first and foremost in all he did. Jack never met a stranger, he was courteous and kind to everyone he met. He enjoyed keeping busy, there was always gardening to do, walks in the park, and the best for him, playing with the children. He was the grandfather and uncle that always had names for the children, Mason was “Hugs”, and never tired of seeing their pictures and hearing of the children’s latest exploits. A Christian by faith, he went to church often and always went out of his way to help those that needed his assistance. His eyes would light up whenever he told a good story, and he had a way of making others around him feel like they were with an old friend. He loved the holidays, gathering those he loved around him to share the day and make memories. He passed from this life on December 16th, 2020 in Ft. Smith, AR, after reaching the age of 67 years old. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother and father, two sons, Billy Ray and Jason Ray Blackburn, one daughter, Billie jean Blackburn, three brothers, Johnny, Billy, and Lonny, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Those left to celebrate his life include his beloved wife Barbra of the home in Ft. Smith, AR, and his children, John Blackburn II and wife April of Midwest City, OK, Stanley Baker and wife Crystal of Midwest City, OK, Adam Blackburn and Donald Blackburn, and daughters Heather smith of Oklahoma City and Katherine Lawson of Texas. He leaves his sisters, Bobbie Freeman of Choctaw, OK, Patty Lou Blackburn of Rhode Island and Dorothy David of Enid, OK. He lives on in his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
Funeral services for John Patrick Blackburn Sr. will be held on Monday, December 21st, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Reed-Culver Chapel with Reverend Paul Starkey officiating. He will be laid to rest following services at the family section in Ross Cemetery in Park Hill, OK. Online condolences for his family may be left at www.reedculver.com.
