Jimmy Leon Johnson was born on October 2nd, 1955 in Wagoner, OK, the son of June and Retha (Boston) Johnson. He grew up in the Hulbert area, played baseball and football in Hulbert, and shared his household with three brothers and one sister, Clyde, Bill, Ronnie and Sandra. After graduating from school, he began his career in the construction industry as an electrician. He eventually became the manager for Locke Supply in Tahlequah, a position he held for over 25 years. He met and fell in love with Carla Ann Laningham, they were married on April 27th, 1984 in Tahlequah, OK. Together they would raise a family of one daughter and two sons, Aubree, Landon and Chase. He had music in his blood, and was a wonderful drummer. Over the years, he played with many local bands, including “Dust and Gunsmoke”,” Bowlegs”, “High Frontier”, “Dashboard Dogs”, all of them western swing and Southern rock, and finally with the family band, “Joe Smoe”, playing all genres of music from rock to blues and rap. It was a win win for Jimmy, playing in a band and the band was his family that he adored! Time off was spent at the lake, creek, or ocean, swimming, camping, and boating, chasing his kids through the water. He coached ball teams for his kids. He also enjoyed showing people his humorous side, writing music that simply made you laugh. He loved his family and friends, liked life on the easy side, more fun less hassle. Jimmy's health began to fail him, but not his sense of humor. Even when things were not going well, he loved to see those he loved smile. He passed from this life on October 1st, 2022 at his home, one day short of his 67th birthday. He will be greatly missed.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Martha Johnson and Kenneth and Lillian (Climber) Boston. He also joins his mother, father, father-in-law, Kenneth Laningham, nephew Craig Johnson, brother-in-law, Jack Morgan, and sister-in-law, Cheryl Johnson.
