Juanita Houston-Robbins was born on January 9th, 1939, in Hulbert, OK, the daughter of Jackson Jasen Houston and Ancie (Keener) Hair. She grew up in the Lost City area and attended school there, along with her sister Nancy and a baby girl, Welch, who passed in infancy. In 1964, she married her best friend, Jesse Robbins. This union was blessed with six sons and two daughters, Larry, Terry, Darrell, Darren, Anthony, Timothy, Vera and Diedra. Juanita was the woman who knew how to enjoy each day to the fullest. She was always outside, going to her favorite fishing hole, or harvesting wild onions, black berries, polk salad and crawdads. There was always gardening to tend to, flowers to cultivate, and grandchildren to chase in the yard. She liked turtles but disliked frogs. Weekends found her attending yard sales, hitting the Thrift Stores looking for a bargain, and planning a gathering with her family. She loved to gather all of her children and grandchildren together to share a meal and a laugh or two. When she was inside, she liked to read a Louie LaMour western, and watch westerns. She was always going the extra mile to help those around her, volunteering at the Golden Rule Thrift Store, or being there with a kind smile and a sympathetic ear to listen. She was kind, generous, and loved people with a genuine love. Her husband passed from this life in 1997, and Juanita spent as much time as possible with her adored children and grandchildren, going shopping, or sitting around talking. She was so very proud of her grandchildren and all their accomplishments. She was a Christian by faith. The Lord called this beloved woman home from her labors on Thursday, January 12th, 2017 at her home in Tahlequah, OK. She was 78 years old.
Juanita is preceded in death by her mother, father, her sister and baby sister, her husband Jesse Robbins, three sons, Larry Hammer, Terry Hammer, and Darrell Hammer, one daughter, Vera Hammer, and three great grandchildren, Mason Factor, Dayton Dunn and Renee Robbins.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons and one daughter, Darren Robbins and wife Teresa of Hulbert, OK, Timothy Robbins of Welling, OK, Anthony Robbins of Tahlequah, OK, and Diedra (Robbins) Lewandowski and husband Larry of Broken Arrow, OK. She will live on in her 23 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
