Loyd Elzie Hubbard was born December 4, 1958 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Carlton Loyd Alvin Hubbard and Pearl Lucille (Conrad) Vogel. He was raised in a household with two brothers and five sisters and attended Tahlequah High School. At a young age, he worked with his dad at a filling station in Fort Gibson. After which, he went on to work at H&T Pipeline Construction as well as Copeland Construction as a gas fitter before finding a 17 year long career as a heavy equipment operator with the City of Tahlequah. Loyd met his soulmate and best friend, Mattie Louise Downing, and on July 7, 2006 in Miami, OK, the two were married. They enjoyed over 18 years of love and memories together, never missing a chance to give each other a hard time and share an ornery grin. Family meant the world to him; proudly wearing the title of dad and grandpa. When the kids were young, he was better known as coach of their softball and baseball teams. Any chance he had, Loyd could be found out fishing or noodling and was an avid deer and coon hunter. He and his buddies, and fellow outdoorsmen, Boyd Boswell and Johnny Ray, would get together regularly, whether for hunting or fishing trips or for a day out at the golf course. Everyone knew, if Loyd was picking on you, he loved you. Always easy going and simply a likeable guy, Loyd was a wonderful husband, brother, dad, grandpa and friend. On Thursday, March 27, 2025 in Tahlequah, Ok, Loyd passed from this life at the age of 66 years old. The joy and humor he brought to life will truly be missed.
