Marie Cole

Marie Jay Cole was born on August 19th, 1924 in Cherokee County, OK, the daughter of Jefferson Stonewall and Fannie Mae (Mason) Jay. She grew up in the green country area, mostly in the Coweta area. She married her husband, Richard Cole and together they raised a family of one son and one daughter, Clint Chartier and Farrie Jay. She loved caring for her husband and her children and grandchildren. Every morning she woke up and watched the church service on TV. She constantly raised large gardens and harvested apples to make the best apple pie you ever ate. Her fried potatoes, beans, chicken, and other wonderful things that came from her kitchen were the best. She wanted to make provisions for her families comfort, making blankets for all the family. A Christian by faith, she never missed the chance to gather with her church family to worship and share a time of fellowship. This is where she gathered her strength to keep her family together at all costs. Her husband died and so did her children. Marie never lost hope, she learned to stay with her grandkids and make the most of life as she found it. The Lord called this hard working woman home from her many labors on September 2nd, 2022 in Coweta, OK at the age of 98 years. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Nicholas and Minnie Nutt, her mother and father, her beloved husband Richard Cole, one son, Clinton Chartier and one daughter, Farrie Cagle and her husband Allen, three brothers, Oddny, CE Jay, and Baby Boy Jay, two sisters, Ruth Vaughn and Rettie Louise Castor, a grandson, Bobby Cagle, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters, Jewell Burchett of Coweta, Mildred Garrett of Coweta of Oklahoma. She lives on in her grandchildren, Pierre Chartier, Stephanie Chartier, Randy Watkins, Ronnie Watkins, Jeffery Cagle, Denise Hansen and Kim Holmes Urrutia as well as numerous great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services for Marie Jay Cole will be conducted on Thursday, September 15th, 2022 at noon at Reed-Culver Chapel with Chaplain Dennis Vance officiating. Her family will hold a visitation on Wednesday, September 14th, 2022 from noon until 6:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Richard at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK.
