Matt Edward Cannon

Matt Edward Cannon was born on July 21, 1973 in Siloam Springs, AR, the son of Fred Joseph Cannon and Lillian Mae (West) Overholser. He grew up with his brother Barry and the two remained very close throughout his life. After graduating high school, he became a certified diesel mechanic through ICTC in Muskogee and attended American Military University in Charles Town, WV as well as Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He had a passion for working with his hands and loved tinkering around on vehicles. He was a true “Trekkie” and would often watch the old Star Trek episodes. Above all, he was most proud of his title as Uncle Matt. His nieces and nephews were his pride and joy. He cherished any time spent visiting with them and had a way of bringing a smile to their face. Matt’s health began to fail and on Monday, August 5, 2024 in Chapel Hill, NC, Matt was called from this life to his eternal rest. He was 51 years old and leaves a void that can never be filled.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Nelly West and Fred and Virginia Cannon, parents, Fred Cannon and Lillian Overholser and uncles, Walter West, James West, Newton West, Donald Cannon, Ronald Cannon, Bob Cannon, and aunt, Irene Cannon.

He is loving remembered by his brother Barry Joe Cannon and wife Tabitha of Beulaville, NC. His memory lives on through his four nephews, Bradley Cannon of Mineral Wells, TX, Izaiah Cannon of Brittany, TX, Aden Cannon and Izaac Cannon, both of Beulaville, NC, one niece, Jasmine Calandrino and husband Mike of Perrin, TX along with two great nephews, Dean and Arthur Calandrino and one great niece, Layla Cannon as well as many friends and loved ones.

Graveside services for Matt will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 10:00am at Proctor-Sanders Community Cemetery in Proctor, OK with Reverend David Wiens officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Barry Cannon, Brad Cannon, Izaiah Cannon, Aden Cannon, Izaac Cannon and Dylan Huckabone.
