Michael Conrad Downing was born on Thursday, June 26th, 1958, in Claremore, OK, the son of Billy Conrad and Sharon Louise (Murphy) Downing. He was raised with four sisters, Tracey, Wahleah, Teresa, and Shauna. He attended and graduated from Bixby High School, where he was active in acting, Cabaret was one of his best musicals, music where he played trumpet, guitar, and bass drums, All State First Chair Trumpet, the youngest First Chair in the Tulsa Philharmonic in 9th grade, and an Eagle Scout. In 1983, he began his studies of the plumbing profession at Okmulgee Technical Institute, and after two years of studies graduated, serving the northeastern Oklahoma area for over thirty years of continuous service. He was talented in art, and painted in oil, his specialty being landscapes. He loved to write, and composed a musical score for a movie, Angel on My Right Shoulder. He also challenged himself to write scripts. He liked to sing karaoke, and go to Spring Creek to hunt for those elusive crawdads. Mike loved people and it showed. There were no strangers in his life, just friends he had yet to meet. He served on the Praise Team of Kings Aid Station and later when he attended Love Light Christian Center. He was the proud father of Israel and Micah and his two grandsons, Connor and Dylan, he loved spending time with them and sharing in their lives and hobbies. A Christian by faith, the Lord call Mike home from his many labors on Monday, May 11th, 2020 at his home in Peggs. He was 61 years of age.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Monta (Tourtelot) Murphy and Joel Mayes and Betsy (Sunday) Downing, his mother and father, a favorite uncle, Dennis Downing, as well as ten aunts and uncles.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Carol Ann Baker-Downing of Tahlequah, OK, and two sons, Israel Downing of Sherman, TX and Micah Downing and wife Jessica of Tahlequah, OK. He leaves four sisters, Tracey Skocdopole and husband Brent of Rocky Ford, OK, Wahleah Markwell of Scottsdale, AZ, Teresa Weaver of St Petersburg, FL, and Shauna Timmons and Dr. Brian Timmons of Framingham, MA. He lives on in his two grandsons, Connor Downing and Dylan Downing all of Tahlequah, OK. He leaves his nieces and nephews, Tristen Markwell of Arizona, Sarah Timmons of Boston, MA, Austin Weaver of St Petersburg, FL and Autumn Weaver of St. Petersburg, FL., as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
