Robert Ray Thompson was born on September 7th, 1951 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Carl Franklin Thompson and Lila Mildred Ballew. He grew up with two brothers and four sisters, Joe Thompson, Harold Thompson, Lucille Carter, Mildred Collins, Sue Mayberry, and Barbara Lloyd. He graduated from Tahlequah High School and later studied automotive components at Okmulgee College and achieved an Associate Degree. Robert worked for 36 years at Greenleaf Nursery and retired from there.
He was known for driving around on the countryside enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his family. On his down time, you could catch him watching the news, catching a great ball game or simply working on his truck. His children were his legacy and he would spoil them with toys and games such as Badminton. He enjoyed the little things in life; fishing was another activity he enjoyed. Just catching a fish at Lake Tenkiller on a warm summer day was enough sentimental value for him.
Robert was a sweet, kind, loving man who adored his family. He was always willing to give a helping hand and loved life the way he saw it. Robert passed away from this life in March near Qualls, OK, at the age of 67 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother, father, son Matthew Thompson, grandparents Joseph Solomon Thompson and Nora Ethel Thompson, grandmother Eleanor Griffin and grandfather Jeff Ballew.
Those who live on to cherish his name are his daughter Tracy and husband William Thibodeaux of Tahlequah, OK, brother Harold and wife Jeannie Thompson of Keys, OK, sister Sue Mayberry of Tahlequah, sister Barbara Loyd of Pettit Bay, OK, grandsons TJ Englett of Georgia and Luke Thompson of Tahlequah, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
Donation to the Keys Volunteer Fire Department or the Cherokee Nation Search and Rescue would be appreciated by Robert’s family. These organizations are greatly appreciated for all the assistance they have given.
