Rockey Wayne Camden was born on July 6th, 1945 in Bakersfield, CA, the son of William Lewis and Pauline Marie (Blalock) Camden. He grew up in a family that had one brother, David and three sisters, Lolly, Rita, and Patricia. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He met and married the love of his life, Mary Francine Byrd May 24th, 1974 in Tahlequah. This union was blessed with 40 years and three adored children, two sons, Donald and Dennis and one daughter, Teresa Lynn. For many years, Rockey worked in Law Enforcement, and would later return to NSU, obtaining his Masters Degree in Engineering. He loved anything mathematical and was very good with history of most any kind. He was considered an expert on firearms and their origins from primitive to modern. He collected coins when the weather cooled, and would occasionally curl up with a Louis L’Amour book or western, but when spring came, Rockey could be found getting the garden ready for his latest endeavors! He was happy just to be keeping company with his Francine and their children. He loved any chance to spend time talking to his grandchildren about their latest accomplishments. When retirement came, Rockey and his wife would motor to Arizona, and enjoy weather that was kinder to Francine’s arthritis. Rockey was everybody’s friend. He loved sharing a cup of coffee and a chat every chance he had. He was a genuine friend, a person who really liked to hear what others had to say. As Francines health deteriorated, Rockey did all he could to help keep life pain free for Francine. She passed form this life on January 4th, 2015. Rockey never started a day that he didn’t miss his lovely girl, his wife and best friend, Francine. Rockey continued with his hobbies and time with his family. He passed form this life on April 5th, 2017 in Tahlequah, OK with his family by his side. He was 71 years, 8 months and 27 days old. He will be greatly missed for all the love he gave to all those who knew him best.
Rockey is preceded in death by his parents, William and Pauline (Blalock) Camden, and one sister, Rita Camden.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Donald Ray Camden and wife, Marla Janeane of Ft. Gibson, OK, Dennis Camden of Phoenix, AZ, and Teresa Lewis of Mannford, OK. He leaves his brother-in-law, David Byrd, and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Simmons and Kathryn Byrd. Rockey lives on in his seven grandchildren, his 6 great grandchildren as well as many cousins, friends and a host of loved ones.
