Sheila was born in Glasgow, Scotland to George Campbell and Joanne Campbell. Her childhood was marked by the events of WWII in the UK. After Secondary School, Sheila trained as a nurse at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She then attended WEC Bible School in Glasgow followed by Wycliffe’s linguistic training in England and in Norman, OK. She met John Tuggy in Mexico during Wycliffe’s Jungle Camp Training; John was impressed with Sheila’s total commitment to Jesus. The couple was married in Lima, Peru on May 30, 1958. The first 20 years of their marriage, the couple worked together in the Amazon Basin among the Kandozhi/Chapra people learning the language, translating the New Testament, training health educators and school teachers, and doing community development in the villages. Their four children were born in Peru from 1959 to 1966. After the completed New Testament was distributed among the Kandozhi/Chapra people in 1980, Sheila & John began working in the Andes mountains among the Quechua people as consultants for Wycliffe’s translation teams. In 1997, the couple officially retired and lived in NC, SC, and CO. From 2001-2011, they returned to Peru periodically, working with Kandozhi/Chapra translators to complete the translation of Old Testament portions. The couple moved to Go Ye Village in 2012. Sheila filled each of her homes with singing, home cooked meals, cups of tea, and fresh flowers from her gardens. Sheila loved her husband of 64 years, her children, grand children, and great-grand children. Sheila loved Jesus.
Sheila is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Alexander Campbell, and her son in law, Bruce Rutter.
