

Tahlequah, OK- Funeral services for Steven Curtis Carney, age 26, will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 10;00 AM at the Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rex Hendrickson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery Services have been entrusted to Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
Pallbearers for Steven include Casey Cowan, Brandon Kaufman, Jaryd Bryan, Chad Grauke, Cody Cobler, and Thomas Brown. Steve;s honorary pallbearers include all of his fraternity brothers from Phi Lambda Chi.
Steven Curtis Carney was born on April 22, 1984 in Charleston, S.C. the son of Debra Sue Schemel and Timothy Dale Carney. Growing up in the Locust Grove area, Steve loved spending time with his friends and camping. Anytime spent playing football, riding four wheelers or playing baseball with friends, was time well spent for Steve. He simply loved sports. He was selected to travel to Hawaii and play “All American Football’. At fifteen, Steve was diagnosed with diabetes, a condition that never stopped Steve or his wonderful sense of humor, he had even named his insulin pumps. Steve could be coaxed into singing at church when the ladies brought beef jerky .He was gifted at quoting movie lines and making his friends and family laugh. The most wonderful thing about Steve was his sense of loyalty and love that he showed every friend and family member he met. He was big hearted and went the extra mile to be there for the friends who needed him, including his niece Katlynn., whom he adored. He graduated from Locust Grove High School in 2003 and began classes at NSU to study health and sports science, majoring in sports medicine. He also started a job at Exopak in Catoosa where he worked as a machine operator. Steve was spending the perfect Sunday surrounded by family and friends when the Lord called him to his Heavenly Home. His golden laughter and sweet smile will be missed by all those blessed by his friendship. Steve was 26 years old.
He is preceded in death by his Grandpa, Ralph Arthur Schemel.
Those left to cherish his memory include his Mom and Dad of Locust grove, OK. He leaves a loving sister, Christine Turner and husband Aubrey and their little girl, Katlynn. His Aunts and Uncles are Angie and David Ryan, Ed and Lisa Carney, Jody and Kelli Carney, Jesse and Colleen Carney all of Locust Grove, Ralph and Sonja Schemel of rose, Ok, Marty and Susan Schemel of Florida, beloved grandparents, Patricia Schemel of Tahlequah, and Ed and Oweta Carney of Locust Grove, OK, as well as many cousins, friends and life long buddies.
