Peggs, OK- Funeral services for William Henry “Bill” Barrington will be held on Friday, March 4th, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Peggs Community Church with Reverend Rex Hendrickson and Reverend Bobby Botts officiating. Interment will follow at New Home Cemetery in Peggs. Services have been entrusted to Reed- Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
William H. “Bill” Barrington was born on July 19, 1923 in Okemah, OK the son of James A. and Matie (Woods) Barrington. At an early age the family moved to Westville and then moved in 1929 to make Peggs their permanent home. During WWII, Bill served his country in the U.S. Army. In January of 1944, he married the love of his life, Alpha Keeton, in Peggs, OK. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter and almost sixty-one years of marriage, until Alpha’s passing in 2005. A farmer and rancher by trade, Bill enjoyed being out of doors with his livestock and crops. He never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting people and having a friendly chat. He made sure his family was provided for and enjoyed time spent with his family. He passed from this life on Friday, February 25, 2011 in Tulsa, OK with his family at his side. He was eighty-seven years old. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Alpha, one daughter, Brenda Ilene Barrington in 1945, and his brothers and sisters, Roy Barrington, Carl Barrington, Pearl Rousey, Cleo Hudson, Viola Barrington, Irene Barrington, Robert Barrington, Bert Barrington, James Arlis Barrington, Delma Conrad, and one great grandson, Cody O’Hern.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Dale Barrington and wife Louise of Peggs, OK and Mack Barrington and wife Sally of Corvallis, OR. Bill’s legacy lives on in his six grandchildren, Gene Barrington of Peggs, OK, Melissa Storm and husband Stefan of Coweta, OK, Diana O’Hern of Inola, OK, Elizabeth Minor and husband Jon of Tahlequah, OK, Jennifer Barrington of Tulsa, OK, and Chad Barrington of Arlington, VA. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and loved ones.
