I met Mr. Thornton after moving into his neighborhood in 2008.  My son, husband, and I would often seeing him out walking his dog in the evenings.  He was always so kind and friendly to us.  We originally thought the dog's name was Jimmy because of Mr. Thornton's old style Tallahassee accent.  It took us about a year to discover our misunderstanding. Regardless, Mr. Thornton would pick up Timmy so that our toddler could pet him in the stroller.  It was both an act of kindness and bravery because our son is so active.  We will miss him.

I was very sorry to hear about Mr. Thornton. I remember well being over at your house many times as one of the neighborhood kids. When I read where Your Mom and Dad were part of the originating group of Holy Comforter, I think I remember that my Mom and Dad were part of that as well when we first met in Kate Sullivan auditorium. Those are good memories.

Angelina - I am saddened to learn of the death of Gene. He was the model for a Southern gentleman. May the peace of the lord be you and your family.

Bert, your dad was a part of Tallahassee's business history with his Gaines Street operation. Also have fond memories of his mother, "Miss Minnie" who was a dear friend of my grandmother. Best of thoughts to you and Shirley.

So sorry to read about Gene's passing on Bert's FB message.  We have very fond memories of this guy, both at Holy Comforter and at the apartments on Gadsden Street where Mom & James used to live!
