Alex D. Littlefield Jr., age 92, died on January 4th at his home of 51 years in Tallahassee Florida. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00am Saturday January 13th, 2018 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial to follow at 12:30pm in Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park on Timberlane Road. A reception for Family and friends will be held at 2:00PM in the family’s home.
Alex was born on October 27th 1925 to Geraldine and Alex D. Littlefield Sr. in Daytona Beach Florida where Alex grew up and attended Mainland High School. During WWII Alex served in the American Army in the Pacific arena from 1944 to 1945. Alex piloted the landing craft that brought soldiers to occupied Japan. While over seas he wrote letters to his then girlfriend, Elva Ann White, whom he later married in 1946 after the war. Alex and Elva Ann moved to Gainesville Florida where they started their family and where Alex earned his Law degree in 1950. The couple settled in Daytona Beach Florida where Alex opened his Law practice. Elva Ann worked as his Secretary and raised their six children.
The couple moved to Tallahassee Florida in 1966 after suffering the loss of their first child, Linda June. Alex worked for the State of Florida for twenty-four years, until he retired in 1990. Alex and Elva Ann celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary before Elva passed away in 2013 at the age of 93. Although he lived in Tallahassee for over 50 years, Alex remained a dedicated University of Florida Gator fan who loved to wear Orange and Blue.
Committed to helping those less fortunate, Alex volunteered twenty years to the Shine Program, which provides free legal service to the needy. Alex was an Ombudsman through the State of Florida, advocating for individuals in long-term care settings. Alex was the State Commander for the VFW in 1960 where he was a member throughout his life. Alex remained a member of the Florida Bar from
1950-2000.
A wonderful husband and Father, Alex is survived by his five children:
Alex D Littlefield III, Jeffery Littlefield, Stephen Littlefield, Teri Littlefield and
Gerry Phipps. Alex had a large extended family with eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He also left behind two nephews, Ricky Littlefield, Charles Ward and two nieces Jeanne Sapp and Roddy Jennings.
The Littlefield family gives a special thank you to “Mr. Alex’s” caregivers whose love and compassion made his life a wonderful. Thank you Aurora, Rebecca, Eliza, Bette and Maria. Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee cared for Mr. Littlefield for several months before his passing.
