She was preceded in death by both of her parents, John Thompson, Sr. and Rosa Lee Austin Thompson, and by her older brothers, John Thompson, Jr., Douglas Sylvester Thompson, and Lee Rogers Thompson.
She graduated from Leon High School in 1968 and went on to start a degree in social work at FAMU. She married Harold Eugene Huggins in 1970 and became a military wife, traveling to parts of Europe and different states in the USA. That marriage alliance lasted until 2005 but the two remained amicable.
Bonnie is survived by her ex-husband, Harold Huggins (Ruth); her children, Marquita Danielle Huggins (Phoenix, AZ), Kimberly Jenee Huggins (Tallahassee, FL), and Marcus Eugene Huggins (Phoenix, AZ); and siblings, J. Melodee Thompson, Beigler P. Thompson, and A. Lynn Allen. She has four grandchildren: Alexander Kendrell Turner, Mykala Denyce Perry (Marquita), Isaac Tayshaun Huggins and Malanah Elayne Huggins (Marcus). Bonnie leaves behind a host of lifelong friends worldwide.
Bonnie was a beloved mother and homemaker. She owned and operated a gift shop called 'Delicious Delights' in Cairo, Georgia, which opened in 2004 and continues to operate under the ownership and management of her daughter, Kimberly Huggins. She organized Cairo's first annual 'Jubilee Festival' in 2007, which brought crowds from surrounding communities together to help start the revitalization of downtown Cairo. She was involved in many other community activities including hosting several Jazz fests, a fashion show, and created a scholarship for a locally talented musician.
She developed deep spiritual beliefs that lead her on a journey for the rest of her life. She had a love for nature and could often be seen, many times in companionship, walking around the community and around her property.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held Saturday September 6, 2025 at Clifford Hill Cemetery at 11am.
