Bruce Albert Takach

Born in Havre de Grace, Maryland Bruce joined the Navy and served during the Vietnam Era. Not long after he completed his honorable service, he chose Jacksonville, Florida as his home, with his bride of almost 55 years, Bertha. He had a 31 year career with the Florida Highway Patrol, being stationed in Ft. Myers, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, and Tallahassee. In 1984 he moved to Tallahassee, which became his permanent home. He served a variety of assignments with the FHP, including as the Captain of the Academy. His final and favorite position was Chief of Investigations for the FHP, from which he retired as a Lt. Colonel (but will forever be known as “THE Major”).

He was a no-nonsense lawman, but in retirement Bruce’s passion and favorite past time was his family and his friends. Bruce simply adored Bertha, and his two daughters, Belinda and Brenda, his 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. Sitting in his garage at night, smoking a cigar, and keeping an eye on everything, you knew that Bruce was there, glad to listen, glad to help, and laugh. He was well known for his sense of humor and his willingness to always be there to help others. You did not need to ask, he simply knew you needed help.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Bertha “Bebe”; daughters: Belinda (Michael Leggett) France and Brenda (John) Lipply, both of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Victoria (Brian) McCormick, Veronica France, Bruce France, Jordyn Lipply, and Sydney Lipply; and one great grandchild, James McCormick.
