

Charles was born in Fort Payne, AL, on August, 7, 1946 to Lola Ruth Summerford and Raymond Leslie "Leck" Wooten. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1964. He then entered the US Navy and served in Viet Nam from 1965-1969. Upon returning from Viet Nam, he and his wife Sharon attended Northeast Alabama State Junior College and received an AA. At the University of Alabama, they both received degrees of Bachelors, Masters, Specialists, and Doctorates in Education. Charles and Sharon moved to Tallahassee in 1982 for Charles to start work at the Florida Department of Education where he worked until he retired in 2013.
Charles and Sharon lived their married an example of love for the world to see. They never stopped dating. They traveled the world together and rarely spent time apart.
He had a passion for the Lord, his wife, his family, and the University of Alabama football.
He is preceded in death by father, mother, one son, and stepdaughter Shawn.
He is survived by his loving wife Sharon, daughter Leslie (Tim Hadden), granddaughter Lesley; stepsons and their families – Grayson Hall (Susan), Spencer Hall (Tracy), Bart Hall (Beverly); sister Susan (Roger Burt) and her family; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved Charles and whom he loved dearly.

A graveside committal with military honors for immediate family only will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 at Alabama National Cemetery (3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115)
