Born in Tallahassee, April 6, 1950, she is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Jason; father, Kenneth Powell of Tarpon Springs; sisters, Susan Powell, Beverly Griffiths, Catherine Winter (Roger); twenty-five cousins; numerous nieces and nephews; and all the many friends she made throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Una Powell, in February of this year.
Growing up she loved the outdoors and was a very good runner who held a statewide record in track for her age group. She began a career in Miami with Graybar Electric where she rose to the position of executive assistant to the district vice president. She and her husband left Graybar when her parents invited them to join the family petroleum business in St. Petersburg. They eventually purchased the business and operated it until its sale in 2001 when her husband accepted a position in Tallahassee.
When she returned to Tallahassee she became a master gardener. She continued to enjoy the outdoors with scuba diving and kayaking. She began playing golf in 2007 often asking the same question many golfers ask, “Why”. Her only unmet wish was to see the destruction of the right greenside bunker on hole 17 at Golden Eagle.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 21 at 11AM at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home on Riggins Road.
