Clifford Timothy Gray

Tim was born in Panama City, Florida on August 5, 1952. He was a fourth generation Floridian, whose family on both his paternal and maternal side came to the Florida panhandle in the late 1800s. Tim moved to Tallahassee in 1970, to attend Florida State University, where he received his Bachelor in Science degree in 1974 and started a career in broadcast journalism before serving in several capacities in legislative affairs and political campaigns.

In 1986 he earned his Juris Doctorate at FSU with high honors. Tallahassee is where he met his wife and started his career and family. The most important things in his life were his family and friends, the former to whom he was a loving, generous provider and the latter a loyal, trusted confidant. He had a keen intellect and a lifelong passion advocating for social justice.

Tim is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anna B. Gray; children Marcus, Eva, and John Clark Gray; grandson Jackson Gray; sister, Julia Gray; and niece Shawn Patterson (Barry), as well as many other nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. He is also survived by his closest friends who were as like family; Steve Kirkpatrick, as well as Carolyn and Whitney Wagner

He was preceded in death by his mother Nathalie W. Gray; father Randall H. Gray, as well as his longtime comrades, Sam Doane and Ray Wise.

Visitation will be from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Friday, August 3, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road. In keeping with the family’s wishes, the burial will be private and there will be no formal services held. A tribute in his honor will be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to either the Southern Poverty Law Center or Big Bend Hospice.
