Patch as he was affectionately known, lived a life defined by courage, service, and unwavering dedication. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969, including service during the Vietnam War. During his time in combat, he was wounded twice-sacrifices that reflected both his bravery and deep commitment to his country.
Following his military service, Patch continued his life of service as a member of the Tallahassee Police Department, where he worked for 27 years. For 17 of those years, he served as a homicide detective, earning the respect of colleagues and the community alike. Among his many notable contributions, he was lead investigator of the Ted Bundy case. After homicide he became a Field Training Officer and had the opportunity to train young officers, which impacted the future of the Tallahassee Police department, demonstrating his skill, determination, and pursuit of justice.
Beyond his professional life, Patch was deeply engaged in his community. He served as president of the Optimist Club of Tallahassee for several years, dedicating his time to supporting and uplifting others.
Patch was also a man of many passions and talents. He was a judo champion, a skilled pilot who flew a Piper Cherokee aircraft, and an avid motorcycle enthusiast who loved riding his Triumph. He embraced life fully, always seeking adventure and excellence in everything he pursued.
Those who knew Patch will remember him as strong, fearless, and devoted-a man who lived with purpose and left a lasting impact on everyone he met. His legacy of service, resilience, and passion will not be forgotten.
