Don D. Farmer, beloved husband, father, Deedad, father-in-law, brother, son, and friend, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 1, 2026. He was 80 years young. A Celebration of Life is planned for Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., with a reception following at Culley's MeadowWood on Timberlane Road.
Don was born on September 5, 1945 in Whitesville, Kentucky, to Chester Charles Farmer and Opal Marie Puckett Farmer. He was the third child of four. Don had an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age, starting his own business at the age of 12. He graduated from Daviess County High School in 1965 and continued his schooling at Owensboro Vocational School and Lockyear College. It was during this time that Don met and married the love of his life, Karen Dale Bassett. They pledged their love to one another in a beautiful wedding ceremony on July 16, 1967, and their love story continued throughout their marriage.
Don was drafted into the Army in April 1968, so Don and Karen moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina where Don was stationed at Fort Bragg. Don achieved the rank of E5. They welcomed their first daughter, Stacie, in 1969. After being honorably discharged, Don, Karen, and Stacie returned to Kentucky briefly, before settling in Wadesville, Indiana. A second daughter, Kristie, completed their family in 1975. He was the ultimate Girl Dad, bringing home pizzas on Friday nights for his girls and the many friends they brought home for sleepovers.
Don was a Tool and Die Engineer by trade, and truly a jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t do. He worked as Plant Manager at Master Manufacturing in Evansville, Indiana for 25 years. He went on to secure his dream position as a Regional Sales Manager for the U.S. Baird Corporation. He later worked as a consultant for Bliss Clearing Niagara.
Don was successful in all of his professional endeavors, but he shined brightest in his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, and follower of Christ. He loved his family deeply, loved the Lord, and truly had a servant’s heart. He loved to cook, especially his special “Farmer Breakfast” and peach cobbler, work outside in the yard, fish with his grandchildren, watch NASCAR, and spend time with his family. He loved road trips, and could drive for hours on end, fueled by music and a cup of hot coffee. He made any place feel like home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Karen Farmer, his two daughters, Stacie King (Adam) and Kristie Stephens (Chuck), his cherished grandchildren, Brodie King, Abie King, Anie King, Adlie King, Cam Stephens, and siblings Betty Libs and Jerry Farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Opal Farmer, and his brother, Darrell Farmer.
Don will be remembered by his family as simply D—a loving, caring, hard-working, funny husband, father, and grandfather, who always went the extra mile to help others. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. He left all people and places better than he found them.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. For those who are willing, please share memories of Don below.
