

Edith Givens, 83, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away Tuesday April 9, 2013, following a brief illness.
A native of Dunnellon, Florida, she moved to Tallahassee as a small child and lived the remainder of her life there. She was a graduate of Leon High School and received both an undergraduate and masters degree from Florida State University. She was a devoted and loving wife of 64 years, a mother of five children, an active grandmother of 14 grandchildren, and a great grandmother of three.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Billy; her five children, Rodney (Keiko) of Tallahassee, Richard (JoLanda) of Tallahassee, Michael (Jody) of St. Augustine, Steven of Tallahassee, Kathryn (Howard) of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ; her fourteen grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She taught elementary school for the Leon County School System for 26 years at Caroline Brevard School. She was a devoted first grade teacher where she taught hundreds of children to read.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 2904 Kerry Forest Parkway. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery.
