Edna Jeane Bauchspies Farrell, 94, passed Wednesday, October 31, 2018, in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born in New York City on December 24, 1923 to Wilbur and Madeline (Hoffman) Bauchspies. She was the first of five children. She graduated valedictorian in East Mauch Chunk (Jim Thorpe), Pennsylvania and continued her education at Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia graduating and receiving the Sister Magdalene Von Bracht Memorial Award April 19, 1945. She was a registered nurse in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida.
She met and married William S. Farrell in Philadelphia on February 1, 1946. She was a dedicated United States Air Force wife using her medical background as a volunteer from their first assignment in Schlangenbad, Germany to others in Georgia, Texas, Kansas, Virginia, New York, New Hampshire and Bolivia from 1946 to 1969. Upon her husband's retirement, they moved to Tallahassee, Florida. She received her Masters of Health Education from Florida State University and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She taught Health Education at Tallahassee Community College and continued to serve as a volunteer in the community.
She is survived by son William (Bill), daughter Candace, daughter-in-law Jo, grandsons Will and Ben Henry, several great grandchildren, sister-in-law Bess, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her son Dean, and siblings, Denny, Wilbur (Cap), Alice and Dorothy. Edna was a loving, intellectual, kind shining spirit. Many considered her to be the matriarch of the family. She loved animals and gave many forever homes.
Words are supposed to be able to express what a treasure she was; but what a difficult task to choose words that give justice to her full and rewarding life. A private graveside service will be forthcoming at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the following organizations: Wounded Warrior Project, Leon County Special Olympics, Leon County Humane Society.
