Esther H. Kausch

Esther Hildegard Kausch, (95 yrs. 8 mos.) of Tallahassee, Fl. joined her Lord and Savior at 4:26 pm on Friday August 31, 2012 while resting comfortably at her home after waging a courageous battle against Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She was born on December 25, 1916 in Ossineke, Michigan to Carl and Wanda (Marek) Scheuner. She was the 5th of 10 children who survived to adulthood. Her elementary education was provided by the Alpena Michigan Public Schools.

Esther was most lovingly referred to as “Oma” by family and friends alike. She and her husband Richard moved their family to Tallahassee in November, 1952. Her family has been a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church for 60 years.

She was a professional seamstress and drapery fabricator who made custom window treatments, bedspreads and other home furnishings until the age of 88. At that time, under the care of wonderful doctors, she took their advice and underwent aortic valve replacement and made a remarkable recovery. Esther then spent the rest of her years cooking and providing for her family and reading several books a week. She also loved a hot game of Pinochle. She was even playing cards up until the last few weeks she had to enjoy with her loved ones.

Esther was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Richard Emil Kausch (July 9, 1912 – January 1, 1991).

Grandchildren: Sheri Lee (Carr) Johnson, Tucson, AZ; Jonathan Richard Carr, Atlanta, GA; Richard Scott Kausch, Tallahassee, FL; Kirsten Joy (Kausch) England (Husband Mark England), Mascotte, FL; Kevin Joshua Kausch, Tallahassee, FL.

Great Grandchildren: Christopher Wayne Johnson (wife, Dafne (Romero) , Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Jerrod Thomas Johnson (wife, Angela), Tucson, AZ; Brittany Marie Johnson, Tucson, AZ; Sequoia Rhiannon Heidt-Kausch, Tallahassee, FL.

Great-Great Grandchildren: Elijah Cole England and Skye England, both of Mascotte, FL; Kelsey Lynn Johnson & Kloiie Skye Johnson Kidd, Tucson, AZ.

Siblings: Orland Albert Scheuner, Manchester, NH; Howard Harry Scheuner, Grand Blanc, MI.

She also has a large extended family of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and many, many dear friends.

She was predeceased by these siblings listed in order of their birth: Reinhold Scheuner, Emma (Scheuner) Lewis, Bernard Scheuner, Gertrude Hulda (Scheuner) Caldwell, Alice Adeline (Scheuner) Komray, Leona Elda (Scheuner) Karmann, and Edward Carl Scheuner.

Interment will be in Tallahassee, FL with arrangements being handled by Culley’s Meadowood Funeral Home.

A memorial service to celebrate Esther’s life and faith will be held at 2pm at Epiphany Lutheran Church on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
