Gordon is survived by his wife of 37 years and best friend Heather Wittstock, daughter Jennifer Martin (Lee), son Gordon Wittstock, Jr. (Kelly), adored grandchildren Gordon III (7), Charlie (5), Ethan (4) and Clara (3), many loving nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family, and his ugly boxer Jack. He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Annabelle Wittstock and his sister Linda Wittstock.
Gordon enjoyed spending his time building, riding his Harley, scaring guys dating any of the women in his life, fishing and simply being with his family. He worked in the building industry for many years in various roles and could always be found helping relatives and friends with household projects. A proud “Villager”, he liked cutting up with his buddies and telling the wild and crazy stories about growing up in the Village.
Gordon was a role model for many and a father figure for a number of his children’s friends growing up, among countless others. He had a special way of connecting with just about everyone he met, even though he pretended not to like people. He was a great dancer, often the first on the dance floor, and looked amazing in a tux – which makes sense because his signature color was black – always with sunglasses, even at night. Gordon was a top-notch lurker, often observing quietly in the background, much to the chagrin of those he was lurking but which resulted in some pretty funny stories.
Generous in heart and spirit, Gordon helped many through the years by giving of his time, money, a listening ear and advice – he wouldn’t think twice about going out of his way for his friends or family and could always be counted on when needed. He was a man whose respect you wanted to earn, and one you could not stand to disappoint. Gordon will be incredibly missed by those he impacted over the years.
Gordon was always a believer in the power of positive thinking and often said “you can do anything you put your mind to”. It is because of that fierce determination and strong-mindedness that he was able to kick cancer’s butt for as long as he did – a lesser man would not have been successful. For that, he and his family were grateful for the extra time he had with the love of his life, their children he was so proud of, and the four little joys of his life.
Gordon and his family deeply appreciated the Florida Cancer Specialists for their care and support during his cancer battle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gordon’s memory to the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Whiskey Joe’s in Port Richey, Florida on Saturday, February 1, from 3:00PM – 5:00PM. But because one party simply isn’t enough for such an amazing man, another Celebration of Life will be held in Michigan with those details shared at a later date.
