

Dr. Lee was born in Korea just before the beginning of the Korean War. After completing a Masters degree in Biochemistry at Seoul National University, he came to the United States in 1967 to attend graduate school at Oklahoma State University where he received a PhD in Biochemistry. He came to Tallahassee in 1973 to join the School of Pharmacy faculty at Florida A&M University. During his 35 years as a professor at FAMU, where he served as director of the Drug Development Center, he was awarded several patents in the U.S., Canada, and Korea for his research. He was an internationally renowned researcher who was awarded multiple scientific grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and published over 100 scientific articles during his
prolific career. He originated the term “ante-drug,” which is now standard lexicon in the medicinal chemistry literature.
He was also a loving and dedicated son, husband, and father. Dr. Lee is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Hyoja Sue; daughters Lois, Angie Jae, and Jenny; and grandchildren Alex, Lauren, Paxton, and Lennox; and his sister Hee-Sook.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Tallahassee, 108 W. College Ave, on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive guests following the service.
