

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth; two daughters, Gigi (Mrs. Bradley) Lehman of San Antonio, Texas, and Mimi (Mrs. William) Hobbs of Tallahassee; four grandchildren, Hilary and Carolyn Lehman, Andrew Hobbs (Valerie), and Alexandra Ledgerwood (Philip); three great-grandchildren, William and Gabriel Ledgerwood and Maxwell Hobbs; two sisters, Nanette Backhaus of Rockville, Conn., and Carmella Phillip of Rockville, Conn.; and one brother, John Daigle of Vernon, Conn.
Hermel was born in Fort Kent, Maine, and was the son of Josephel and Leonie Daigle. He was the seventh of thirteen children. He attended elementary, high school and the University of Maine in Fort Kent. After serving in the U.S. Air Corps and U.S. Air Force, he joined the Foreign Service of the Department of State, from which he retired after 29 years of federal service. Among his posts of assignment were Alaska; Germany; Libya; Greece; Washington, D.C.; Portugal; Israel; Liberia; Morocco and Yugoslavia.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 814 North Gadsden St., Tallahassee, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 18. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church or Covenant Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida.
