James Desmond Simmons, 87 of Tallahassee, died Saturday, September 21, 2013. James was born April 5, 1926 in Ash, N. Carolina to James and Olivia (Smith) Simmons and moved to Tallahassee in 1966 coming from Raleigh, N. Carolina. James is a Korean War Army Veteran and is also a retired engineer with the Federal Department of the Interior with over 25 years of employment. James was united in marriage on January 4, 1946 in Ash, N. Carolina to his wife, Juanita who resides in Tallahassee. James is also survived by his sons, Stephen (Beverly) Simmons and Barry Simmons all of Ft. Lauderdale and his grandchildren, Brian Simmons and Brittany Simmons and her fiancé, James Hlavaty all of Tallahassee and Elizabeth Simmons of New Zealand. James is preceded in death by his sister, Aileen Pike. Visitation will take place Tuesday from 12-1:00 pm at Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home, Timberlane Chapel where funeral services will take place that day at 1pm. Interment will take place in Meadowwood Memorial Park.
