Born on June 2, 1955, in Tokyo, Japan, Janet lived a life defined by strength, love, generosity and humor. She was known for her laughter, creativity, and thoughtful gift-giving, which brought joy to those around her in countless ways.
Janet proudly retired from the United States Air Force, where she served as a laboratory technician. After her military career, she continued supporting service members as a contractor in Iraq. Whether it was gardening, collecting antiques, or hosting elaborate holiday feasts, she did everything with passion, style, and a joy that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Above all, Janet cherished her family. She is survived by her husband, Larry Exum; her sons, Albert Sampson, Christopher Litherland, Anthony Perez, and Jesse Perez; grandchildren, Audrina Perez and Jordan Elton; and her siblings, Judy Kleynen, John Fulton, James Fulton, Peggy Fulton, and Phillip Fulton, who will carry forward her legacy of strength and passion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Fulton and Itsuko Sugawara.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at her sister Judy’s home in Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in her honor.
Her love, laughter, and spirit will live on in all who knew her.
