Jerry Byron Bryant, 69, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at his home in Tallahassee, Florida.
He was born in Cairo, Grady County, Georgia, to Henry Luther Bryant and Thelma Rae Gainey Bryant. He was the second child of four children. He married his life-long love, Jean Davis Bryant, on February 1, 1963. Jerry was the Vice President of Sales and Sales Manager at Ro-Mac Lumber and Supply until his retirement in December 2004. He worked at Ro-Mac for 18 years. He worked in retail and commercial sales for 40 years. He attended Abraham-Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia. His senior year at Cairo High, he was awarded the Star Farmer in the Future Farmers of America organization. He loved fishing and bird watching. After his illness took a toll on his physical activities, he became an avid Genealogist. Jerry's deep love for family led him to research his family tree. Through his research he had identified 20,860 individuals and just completed downloading these files to Ancestry.com. Jerry loved cats. His special cat, Twink, passed away Friday, April 20, at the age of twenty-one.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Davis Bryant; three sons, Jerry Dean and wife, Rachel Dean Bryant, Stephen Ralph and wife, Jenifer Winn Bryant and Matthew David and wife, Laurel Bild Bryant; three grandchildren, Christopher Dean Bryant, Isabelle Ainsley Grace Bryant and Eli Tucker Bryant; sister, Linda Bryant Roberts; brother, Wade Bryant and wife, Cathy; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins; and his cat, Matilda.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Thelma Gainey Bryant; his brother, Luther Ray Bryant and Luther's wife, Hilda Rehberg Bryant.
The family will receive friends at his visitation on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home on 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, Florida, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. A private burial service will take place at Bethel United Methodist Church in Reno, Georgia. Pastor Bill Williams of Unity of Tallahassee Church will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Mark Bryant, Robbie Smith, Randy Boykin, Clay Davis, Jack Roberts and Jesse Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Butler, Bryant Garland, Mike McKenzie and Bob Robuck. Jerry was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
